Public Health Care

Filed under: General — admin @ 4:17 pm

When looking objectively at the health care debate, it makes sense to take a look at the option of public health care. This idea has been proposed by numerous legislators and is still being considered. Despite strong opposition, based in large part by comparisons to less favorable socialist nations, the system of public health care has seen remarkable success in many countries, with Canada and France providing two of the biggest examples.

Is Public Health Care Ideal For You?

When considering if public health care is the right option for you and your family, it can be a bit confusing. Many people find themselves satisfied with their current insurers and are reluctant to give up their current coverage. However, for the millions of uninsured and underinsured citizens, the idea may offer some hope. Under these plans, it is still possible to have private insurance, but the government pays for almost all health care through income taxes. These taxes are pooled together, and when the system works as it should, there are no waits or lines for lifesaving surgeries and all citizens are able to receive proper care as soon as it is needed.

The system runs differently depending on the country, but as a whole, citizens who cannot afford the plan or who are unemployed are still able to receive health care services. The government is prepared to meet these needs. When determining if this would be a good plan for you, it is important to realize that the idea means full access to health care no matter what your employment status or savings may look like. With the economic situation in recent years declining, many people have lost their jobs and faced life without access to care, helping to highlight one of the biggest benefits to such a policy.

In short, the public option is something that is worth considering, both for individuals and lawmakers. Any system will have drawbacks as well as benefits, and the transition from one form to another can be stressful. With so many uninsured, however, a system that offers all Americans access to quality health care is something that is certainly worth considering. With better life expectancies and general care offered in countries that utilize this system, it is well worth examining how we might benefit from taking an example from these policies.
